The Fins is named after the huge, thin bands of limestone that shoot out of the mountainside to offer up world-class sport climbing.
There are two main parking areas:
The upper parking area provides a very short approach and beautiful camping in trees, but requires 4-wheel drive.
The lower pullout avoids the steep sections of road, making it accessible by most cars. From here climbers must hike an exposed uphill trail to Yellow Cake Wall.
The land around The Fins is managed by BLM and The Forest Service, both of which allow camping. The upper parking area has several beautiful spots that are protected from wind by the hill and trees. There are no bathroom facilities, though, and human waste is becoming a problem. Please pack out your poo!
